Cover (Jack) Blankenship, 85 of Rich Creek passed away Thursday, August 17th, 2017.

He was born on March 25th, 1932 and was the son of the late Ernest Paul and Carrie Ratcliff Blankenship. In addition to his mother and father, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, Bertie Lowery Blankenship; six sisters, Louise Wiley, Eula Hale, Shorty Blankenship, Carol Bouldin, Brenda Blankenship, and Evelyn Blankenship; and five brothers, Paul (Boy) Blankenship, Bill Blankenship, Jessie Blankenship, Charles Edward Blankenship, and Bobby Joe Blankenship.

A U.S. Army Korean War Veteran, Jack was an active member of VFW Post #6000 and American Legion Post #68. He loved helping people, especially children. A loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, brother-in-law and uncle, he will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.

Left to cherish his memory are four daughters, Patty Neice and husband Jimmy of Rich Creek, Debbie Akers and husband Darrell of Narrows, Jackie Dalton and husband Melvin of Narrows, and Janetta Collins of Pearisburg; six grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; two sisters-in-law, Betty Lowery of Salem and Sue Blankenship Cole of Christiansburg; a very special nephew and wife, Bill and Sharon Lowery of Narrows, along with many more nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Monday, August 21st, 2017 at 2 PM in the Chapel of Riffe's Funeral Service in Narrows with Allen Bouldin and Pastor Merrill Hedrick officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg with graveside rites conducted by VFW Post #6000, and American Legion Posts #68,#311 and #145. The family will receive friends at Riffe's Funeral Service Sunday from 6 to 8 PM. The family requests that those sending memorial contributions, please consider the Veterans Administration Voluntary Services at the VA Medical Center; 1970 Roanoke Boulevard; Salem, Virginia 24153. In the memo section of the check, earmark contributions in memory of Cover J. Blankenship, GPF5020.
